In 1983, the University began working with a simple learner enrolment of 6, 321 and 22 Study Centres. Since then there has been a stable development in intake and an expand in the number of Study Centres. In 2001 the enrolment is about 1 lakh and the lots of Study Centres have increased to 137. The complete number of students on rolls in all the programs is concerning 4, 50, 000. Now the complete analysis centres enhanced upto 200.

Open University program is workable in terms of admission, selection of Programs, duration and age requirements, teaching techniques and assessment procedures. Thus it provides an alternate channel to those who missed the possibilities for higher education. The University caters especially to women, working people and those who want to develop their academic qualifications and professional abilities. The University lays particular concentrate on socially disadvantaged and geographically remote people who never had access to higher education earlier.

Two years before prior to 2001 when the very first Open University was organized in India, the issues of the pioneers of the open program of education were concentrated around the topic ‘Why Open Learning? ‘ Their efforts were typically centered on justifying the innovations in training techniques, flexibility in entry requirement, requirements of diverse client teams.

Getting stood at the threshold of the 20 first year of the lifestyle of this University, the question ‘ Why open learning’ is neither required nor related. The concentrate had moved from ‘Why’ to ‘How’ and ‘What’. The University, through its own experiences and testing has innovated and standard the teaching learning methods and offered top quality education, which is accepted through peer academics and also prospective employers. It is required now to further more improve the top quality of the learning material and advertise system-based analysis.
